Glass.
Be like glass, let them see through your shell.
Show them who you are, and let them take it in.
You shouldn’t have conceal yourself,
Turning your body a solid shade opaque.
There is a sunset resting inside of your skin,
And your warmth melts the confidence of
Anybody who takes a glance at your face.
Remove the tints covering up your lenses.
It’s hard to feel like yourself when even the
Trees seem to be staring you down as you drive.
The road looks clear and the sky feels light,
Then you let heaviness inside suddenly a deer
Appears in your headlights and you swerve
To the left, hoping that they’re okay.
So you get out to take a look at the doe,
And then you realized that there was nothing there.
You feel your shell hardening into a duller gray,
Much less like the egg you once were,
Nor anything like the glass you sought out to be.
But as cloudy as your anxieties make you look,
Deep down that sun is rising again.
Confidence wavers often but,
Even trees will bow as you phase
Past them to greet your friends.
Sharing yourself to them can be
Overwhelming like a bee buzzing
Around in a field of daisies and tulips.
And yet there is beauty in that
Very honey it works to provide,
Such like the burning embers:
Glowing, pulsing inside your chest,
Right there where your heart beats
And carries on the tune you’ve made.
