Layton’s Dawning.
“Cherish it,” He whispered, his breathing unsteady, chest heaving harshly as Layton held the old man in his arms.
“But…” Layton started, interrupted by the hand pressing softly against his lips.
“Cherish it,” His father whispered again, “But never forget who you really are.”
Layton stifled a sob, “huh?”
The old man smiled, “You’re my son… and you’ll always be more than him.”
His father breathed once more, then closed his eyes, leaving Layton alone to process what just happened.
Years later, inside the Midnight Carousel, Layton finally understood what his father meant, far too late to see it through.
